Last day of Astroland | 01:19 PM

Nasty got many fantastic detail shots of The Last Day of Astroland, including the rather dirty pirate above.

Mermaid Parade | 10:05 PM

Most folks with a camera at the mermaid parade were obsessed with taking photos of all the hot, hot scantily-clad gals. Since I'm lucky enough to see plenty of those on a regular basis, I was much more interested in documenting that elusive yet fascinating creature: those who go to the mermaid parade because they're obsessed with taking photos of all the hot, hot scantily-clad gals.

Nasty, of course, was still obsessed with the boobies: Full Flickr Set.

Prickly & Wet | 06:13 PM

Judas vindicated?
Leaky Bush?
Creationism debunked?
Red Hots Burlesque on TV?

All good topics for discussion. Instead, I will post pictures of two new residents of the Central Park Zoo: Brody the Porcupine and Herbie the Harbor Seal.

Though some may question the wisdom of having a porcupine in a petting zoo, the fact remains that Brody is painfully cute. Guineafowl didn't think so, but what to they know? Here he is just a short time after he was introduced to his habitat.

Herbie, on the other hand, has been in his habitat for more than a week, and is getting along with everyone, including the crochety old sea lions.

Where's the seal?

Born Yesterday: Baby Colobus Monkey! | 06:47 PM

Another round of semi-out-of-focus pix from the Central Park Zoo... including some shots of the day-old Colobus Monkey! Take that, Dick Cheney!

The entire colobus family group helps care for the newborn... here, "aunt" Tana holds the baby (that white patch of fur in the with arms and legs) while mom (Mac) looks on nervously. Dad's name: Metal Man.

Too little for holding: Mom took the baby back.

It's a squirmy little Colobus.

Best shot I could get of the baby's face.

Bella, the new Red Panda girl, is now out and about on a daily basis. Today, she discovered and discomfited the geese with whom she shares a habitat.

Scooter (left) and Clarisse (right) wait for lunch.

Don't worry, April, everyone has at least one photo in which they're making this face.

It's a pigeon. Yes, I'm sure. A Victoria Crown Pigeon. Yes it is!

JA comments: "I'm emailing these to Gothamist."

CPZ Photos | 04:14 PM

A rare Saturday trip to the Central Park Zoo with the camera netted some enjoyable pics of animals, including one of the new resident Red Panda, Bella (after the jump.)

Red Eyed Tree Frog (Agalychnis callidryas)
Tropic Zone, Upper Level

Luzon Bleeding Heart Pigeon (Gallicolumba luzonica)
Tropic Zone, Main Area
Nope, it's not hurt. God made it that way. How intelligent.

Gus the Polar Bear (Ursus maritimus)
Polar Circle
Unlike his wild relatives, Gus actually gets less active in the winter.

Madagascar Hissing Cockroach (Gromphadorhina portentosa)
Education Department
I pet a cockroach! Then I took a picture of it!

Bella, the new resident Red Panda (joining Goodwin) (Ailurus fulgens)
Temperate Zone
Blurry photo, but my first sighting of the new gal!

More, including pix by Nasty, on her Flickr page. Also a skink.

This week: the incessant pressures of fame leave me with very little time to share my wisdom with the world in "blog" form. Therefore, another Italy photo:
